According to reports, Liverpool's strategy to improve their midfield may include another raid on Portugal's Primeira League.
The Reds have already signed Darwin Nunez of Benfica and Luis Diaz of Porto, two of the biggest stars in the southern European league, but now a third player is being linked to them.
According to the Portuguese publication O Jogo, Jurgen Klopp's team has expressed interest in Florentino Luis, a midfielder for Benfica. The 21-year-old spent the previous two seasons on loan with Monaco and Getafe, but he has since established himself as a first-team regular for the Eagles under Roger Schmidt, helping the Lisbon team to hold the top spot in the league.
Having advanced through Benfica's youth system, Luis might be exactly the kind of player Klopp is looking for, but despite the alleged interest, an impending transfer now appears to be a tall order.
Luis recently inked a contract extension with the Lisbon club through 2027. It is believed that the agreement contains a release clause, but in order to make use of it, interested parties—including the Reds—would need to pony up a staggering £104 million.
Luis currently competes for Portugal at the under-21 level, but he has now set his sights on making the World Cup roster for his country's team the following month. If he succeeds, interest in the player is only going to grow.
